Make Home-Made Gravy, Slow-Simmered in Clay

Make delicious, homemade gravy slow-simmered in clay for your big holiday meal! Mmmm, gravy. It’s good in and on so many dishes: mashed potatoes, turkey, stuffing, biscuits…the list goes on and on. It adds a meaty, creamy goodness to anything it touches, and it actually has a lot of nutrients as well: the pan drippings concentrate the goodness from the meat producing a flavorful, rich liquid that contains gelatin, vitamins, minerals and other good stuff.

So don’t throw that liquid gold away! Make your own delicious gravy that you can use for the big meal, and even save for biscuits and gravy in the morning! Gravy is an excellent accompaniment to meat, stuffing and other dishes. Try this easy, delicious recipe in VitaClay next time you need gravy for a big meal!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups broth
  • pan drippings from turkey, roast or other meat
  • 4 large button mushrooms, chopped and sauteed, or 3 T condensed mushroom soup (optional)
  • 6 tablespoons flour (tapioca or other starch can be substituted as the thickener)
 Directions:
  1. Add broth, drippings and mushrooms into clay pot.
  2. Set to “stew” or "hi" setting for 30 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle in flour slowly, stirring constantly.
  4. Seal up the pot.
  5. Gravy will be ready in 30 minutes, and will automatically go to “warm” setting when finished cooking. (Keep it warm until it's ready to serve).
  6. Transfer to gravy boat and serve.
