Korean Bulgogi: The Exotic Made Easy in VitaClay!

Korean Bulgogi: The Exotic Made Easy in VitaClay!

Suitable for VitaClay Models VF770, VM7900

Some dishes are so intimidating to me that I don't even attempt to cook them. These usually include exotic dishes such as pad thai, sushi, kimchee, and Korean bulgogi.

While I love them and they are really delicious, as an American-raised white girl, I don't feel equipped to create authentic exotic dishes, so I settle for always eating them in restaurants.

And eating out every so often isn't terrible, but sometimes I want to eat these dishes a little more often, spending less money and using better ingredients that I can control.

This Korean Bulgogi recipe allows me to do just that in VitaClay. And it comes out so much better than I expected! With VitaClay, these intimidating recipes became simple, and now we can enjoy them at home as often as we wish, without the guilt!

Main Ingredients:

3 T coconut oil or butter

1 T shallots, chopped

1 T ginger, finely grated

5 cloves garlic, minced or chopped

2lb beef, sliced flank steak

1/2 c beef broth

Sauce and Garnish:

1/8 c cornstarch

1 t salt

½ c soy sauce

1/3 c Brown Sugar or Coconutsugar

1 T Sirracha

2 T ToastedSesame Oil

½ c green onions/scallions, chopped (garnish)

Directions:

Optional steps*:

*frying the beef beforehand gives it a certain flavor and texture; but if you want to skip these steps it's still super delicious--just add everything to the clay pot and cook!

  1. Heat a cast-iron skillet or other frying pan on medium, adding coconut oil.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add shallots, ginger and garlic. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Add flank steak to the pan, frying each side for 1-2 minutes.

Required Steps:

  1. Add all "main ingredients" to clay pot
  2. Close, seal and cook on "stew" for 40 minutes-1 hour, until beef is tender
  3. In a bowl, mix all of the "sauce" ingredients, except green onions/scallions, stirring well to incorporate
  4. Toss beef in sauce and serve, garnishing with green onions and other fresh veggies.
  5. Can be served over rice or other grain.

*Recipe intended for VitaClay models VM7900 or VF7700 ONLY. Please do not try this recipe in the stock pot, as there is not sufficient liquid.
