So What Can We Do??
The first thing we can do is not panic. This is something we can address! When we know better we can do better.
We can start by changing out the oils we use for our own home cooking for healthy oils: trash the liquid yellow oils and replace them with coconut oil, olive oil, butter (NOT margarine--that's seed oils!), avocado oil, or even tallow. All of these oils can be replaced one-for-one so it's very simple to do--just switch it out and cook as normal! And yes--this includes cooking sprays! Ditch the conventional one and get an avocado or olive oil spray instead--they are available!
We are fortunate to live in a time where this is a recognized issue and there are so many great alternatives out there for us to buy. Now every store I go to (including Costco) has great options like avocado oil spray, tallow, ghee, high quality olive oils from Italy or Greece, and even avocado oil mayonnaise. (Don't worry--it tastes exactly the same)!
Next check ingredients on all of your sauces, dressings and condiments: you may be surprised how ubiquitous these oils are in literally everything! Even store-bought hummus sometimes has canola oil, and almost all deli salads have these bad oils in them!
Check the ingredients of everything! Go through your pantry and fridge and scan the ingredients of all of the snacks and packaged foods. These nasty oils are lurking everywhere.
It may be a bit overwhelming, so take your time as you go through and replace everything with better options. You won't believe the difference it will make in the health of you and your whole family. You've got this!
