Yin-Ying balance immune boosting tonic soup with Astragalus

Add these along with ginger, wine, and water in your VitaClay to brew for 2 hours. 

Astragalus root (Astragalus membranaceus) has been used for thousands of years in TCM to promote wellness by strengthening the qi or chi, the energy that circulates on the surface of the body. Known as one of the most useful Chinese herbal tonics, this hearty root is ideal for someone who wants some extra immune support.* Western herbalists call this root an adaptogen, which means it helps to bring the body back into balance and to ward off effects of every-day physiological stressors.* The mild sweet taste works well alone, or with other medicinal herbs, prepared in soups.

This healing soup is one of my go-to “beauty” soup that makes me feel relaxed and rested as it was packed with the healing herb ingredients- Lily bulbs, goji berries, wild yams, shiitake mushrooms, gorgon seeds. It is said for nourish yin and kidney, invigorating spleen and regulating #chi and blood, which can make your skin look youthful.

Lily bulbs are used to relieve coughs, dry throats and other respiratory conditions, to clear away heat, and to treat insomnia and heart palpitations. Its tonic properties make it a good herb for promoting restful sleep and treating restlessness and irritability.

Gorgon seeds, also called Fox Nut Barley, nourishes kidneys and spleen to secure essence, and stop diarrhea, dry dampness and vaginal discharge. Fox Nut Barley promotes cardiovascular health, benefits a healthy blood pressure, supports reproduction, benefits digestion, promotes a health blood sugar level along with exercise and healthy diet and supports kidney health.  It contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, is high in calcium and an excellent source of protein. can be used as a treatment for rheumatic pains and arthritis as it has little or no side effects.

Wild yams nourishes guts and goji berries nourishes kidney and support energy.

This carefully selected herbal mix, including shiitake mushrooms, astragalus, wild yam, gorgon seeds, lily bulbs, and goji berries, makes a rich, nourishing soup for a 4-quart cooker.

WAYS TO CONSUME- 

🥣 Whole Chicken Herbal Tonic Soup (4 Quarts)

Ingredients (serves 6–8)

Protein & Base:

  • 1 whole chicken (3–4 lbs), cleaned and rinsed

  • 10 cups water or low-sodium chicken broth

Herbal Tonics:

  • Astragalus root (Huang Qi) – 1 oz (28 g)

  • Shiitake mushrooms, dried – 1 oz (6–8 mushrooms, soaked in warm water 20 min)

  • Wild yams (Shan Yao), dried slices – 1 oz

  • Lily bulbs (Bai He), dried – 0.5 oz

  • Goji berries (Gou Qi Zi) – 1 oz

  • Gorgon seeds (Qian Shi) – 1 oz

Optional Aromatics & Seasoning:

  • 2–3 slices fresh ginger

  • 2 scallions, chopped

  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Herbs:

    • Rinse all herbs briefly in cold water.

    • Soak dried shiitake mushrooms for 20 minutes, then slice.

  2. Prepare the Chicken:

    • Remove giblets if present.

    • Cut into halves or leave whole depending on your cooker size.

  3. Combine Ingredients:

    • Place chicken in the slow cooker or VitaClay pot.

    • Add all herbs and aromatics.

    • Pour in 10 cups water or broth (enough to cover chicken and herbs).

  4. Cook the Soup:

    • VitaClay: Set to Soup function for 2–2.5 hours.

    • Slow Cooker: Low for 6–7 hours or High for 3–4 hours.

    • Optional: skim foam during the first 30 minutes for a clearer broth.

  5. Add Goji Berries & Season:

    • Add goji berries during the last 15–20 minutes.

    • Season lightly with salt if desired.

  6. Serve:

    • Remove chicken and carve meat.

    • Serve soup hot, including herbs if desired, or strain herbs for a clear broth.

    • Can be stored in refrigerator 3–4 days

 

Another option: Add the herbal mix to 6 cups of water in your VitaClay and simmer on Soup or Slow for 1 hour.
